Define what attendance means
Institutions need agreement on expected events, late windows, approved exceptions, corrections, and which record becomes official. Technology will expose unclear policy rather than resolve it automatically.
Design for imperfect device events
Network interruptions, duplicate scans, missed events, device maintenance, and identity mismatches are normal operating cases. The platform needs validation rules and a review workflow so exceptions do not become misleading reports.
Give each role appropriate visibility
Students, faculty, wardens, administrators, and leadership need different information and actions. Start with minimum necessary access, document correction rights, and keep an audit trail for sensitive changes.
Build trust through transparency
Explain what information is collected, why it is used, who can see it, and how errors can be corrected. Attendance technology works best when it supports a clear institutional process rather than feeling like unexplained surveillance.
